Velma Rooks Anderson July 09, 2010

Velma Rooks Anderson of Rocky Point gently passed from her earthly life to her eternal rest on Friday, July 09, 2010.

She was born December 22, 1922 in Pender County, the daughter of the late Arthur and Estelle Rooks. Velma was preceded in death by her loving husband, Coy Anderson; son-in-law, Harold Byerly; brothers, Norman, Lloyd and Sheldon Rooks and sisters, Maola Moore, Margaret Ennis and Udell Langston.

Surviving are her daughters, Elaine Wrenn (Wayne) of Durham and Janice Byerly of Castle Hayne; son, Julian Anderson (Donna) of Rocky Point; grandchildren, Elizabeth Wrenn, Kenneth Wrenn, Calvin Wrenn, Harold Byerly, Christopher Anderson (Jeanne), Jessica Anderson and Emily A. Smith (Jason); great grandchildren, Chad Wrenn, Megan Anderson and Julian Anderson; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Douglas of Leland, Gray Moore and Hilda Tompkins both of Rocky Point; brother, Lorace Rooks (Pearl) of Rocky Point; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Anderson was a life long faithful member of Riley’s Creek Baptist Church. Velma was a true Southern lady in every respect, who with her beautiful smile and gracious manner was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend.

Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at Riley’s Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Herchenhahn officiating. Burial will follow in Riley’s Creek Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. in the church fellowship hall until hour of the service. At other times the family will be at the home of Julian and Donna Anderson, 1039 Scott Rd., Rocky Point.

Casketbearers will be Manley Moore, Allen Moore, James Davis, Robert Anderson, Douglas Moore, and Joe Rooks.

Memorial gifts may be given to Community Home Care and Hospice, 117 Village Rd. Suite E, Leland, NC 28451 or to Riley’s Creek Baptist Church Ladies II Class, 19845 NC 210, Rocky Point, NC 28457.

With heartfelt appreciation Velma’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Britthaven of North Chase for the excellent and compassionate care given to their mother.
