Essel "Junior" Bryant Gurganious July 11, 2010

Essel Bryant “Junior” Gurganious, age 63, of Leland and formerly of Pender County died Sunday, July 11, 2010 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born December 17, 1946 in Pender County and was the son of the late Essel Bryant and Daisy Bell Pickett Gurganious. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Alton Gurganious and John David Pickett.

Surviving are his caring family; brother, Larry Gurganious of Pageland, South Carolina; sisters, Daisy Long of Florida, Mary Virginia Gurganious of Jacksonville and Ann Bennett of Clinton; many nieces and nephews and his devoted caregivers of 9 years, Terry and Deborah Huff of Leland.

Junior loved his family dearly and was loved in return. Junior had many physical disabilities including becoming blind at the age of 5 years and being unable to walk. Even with all his health issues he maintained his faith in God and a bright outlook on life. He loved playing with his blocks, singing, Cokes and oatmeal cakes. He was always honest and truthful and expected others to be the same with him. His joyful spirit and love of laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved Junior.

Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 12, 2010 at Walker Family Cemetery, corner of Point Caswell Road and Piney Woods Road near Atkinson.
