Earnest Raymond "Ray" Wood, Sr. July 20, 2010
Rocky Point: Earnest Raymond “Ray” Wood, Sr., 84, beloved husband and father passed away from this life into eternal rest Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at his residence. He was dearly loved and will be missed so much. Earnest had a wonderful sense of humor, joking with the nurses when he was in the hospital.
He was born September 3, 1925 in Scotts Hill and was the son of the late John Woods and Lucy Tompkins Wood Benton.
Raymond leaves behind many who loved him dearly; his wife, Kathy; daughter, Kathryn Parker (Jay); son, Ray Wood, Jr.; grandson, David, and granddaughter, Amy; one great grandson; sisters, Catherine Schuenan and Edith Benton and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Wood was former owner of Ray’s Sandblasting and Painting Company and was a member of American Legion Post 10, having served proudly in the US Navy during WW II. He worked in his yard he so loved, tending his azaleas until last year when he had to quit. Cherished memories of Raymond will forever remain in our hearts.
Graveside service will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2010 at Greenlawn Memorial Park with Chaplain of American Legion Post 10 officiating. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 10.
