Anisia Nativida Serra Matthews, 87, of Willard has found rest after a valiant struggle against the ravages of Alzheimer’s on Tuesday, January 1, 2019.
She was born on December 25, 1931 in Santiago Cuba; the daughter of the late Nicholas and Gilda Perez Serra. She was also predeceased by her brother, Armado Serra.
Anisia is survived by her best friend and husband of 57 years, Rayford Earl Matthews of the home; daughters Cynthia Siner of California, Gail Matthews of Raleigh, Laura Blanton and husband Johnny of Wallace and Linda Rivenbark and husband Horace of Willard; grandchildren, Jeff Whitley, Amber Dixon and husband, Marcus, Santana Batts, Victoria Batts, Matthew Rivenbark, Jevin Rivenbark and Joe Rivenbark; six great grandchildren; sister, Herlinda Re-Calmae of California; brother, Henry Serra of New York; special niece, Linda Roberts and numerous extended family and friends.
Anisia was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and sister who loved her family dearly. She was a diligent homemaker and with a joyful spirit, filled her home with love and care. Anisia was proud to be a military wife and was a great supporter of husband during his service in the US Coast Guard. She enjoyed cooking, shopping/antiquing, skating and dancing. She also loved the beach and music. Anisia will surely be missed but cherished memories of her will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Funeral service will be held at 6:00pm on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with Chaplain Ricky Byrd officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home until 7:30pm.
Private burial will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Riverview Memorial Park, Watha.
The family would like to thank the staff of Community Home Care and Hospice for their compassion and the care they gave to Anisia and her family during her illness.
