David Earl Sykes

     David Earl Sykes, 69, of Watha, beloved husband, daddy, granddaddy, brother and friend left his earthly life on Monday, December 2, 2019 to rest in the arms of his Lord and Savior.

     He was born March 4, 1950 in Wilmington, the son of the late John Thomas Sykes and Gladys Horrell Sykes. Also remembered is his brother, Thomas Sykes who preceded David in death.

     David is survived by his beloved wife of 47 happy years, Joyce Sykes; daughter, Tammy Sullivan (Matt); son, David Allen Sykes; step-daughter, Shannon Martin; grandchildren, Paige Ramos, Miriam Sullivan, Emilee Sullivan, Abbigail Sullivan, and Zachary Hall; brothers, James Sykes, John Sykes and Mark Sykes; sister-in-law, Annette Sykes; many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

     He attended Coras Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.  David served his country honorably in the US Navy. He was retired from General Electric Company after working for many years in the aircraft parts manufacturing division.

     First and foremost, David was a devoted husband and loving daddy and granddaddy that took wonderfully good care of his family. What special memories David’s grandchildren have of time spent with granddad on fishing excursions. David enjoyed hunting and being outdoors in God’s beautiful world of nature. As a hobby, David built many bird houses which now reside in the yards of family and friends. David leaves to us a legacy of love and the importance of Family, Faith and Country.

     The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Coras Grove PFWB Church with funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Randy Little will conduct the service.

     David will be laid to rest in Bordeaux Family Cemetery with his family in attendance.

     At other times the family will be at the home of Tammy and Matt Sullivan, Coras Grove Road, Watha NC.
