Dorothy Mae Long Squires, 85, of Kelly passed gently from her earthly life Thursday, October 10, 2019 at the Laurels of Pender.
She was born November 26, 1933 in Sampson County, the daughter of the late John Kelly Long and Mary Elizabeth Hudson Long. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her husband, Steve Squires; brothers, Billy Long and Jack Long; and sister, Mary Catherine Ezzell.
Dorothy leaves her dear family and much appreciated friends to cherish her memory, her brother, Wilbert Long (Betty); her sister, Edna Boykins; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and caring friends.
Dorothy was a dedicated Christian and faithful member of Natmoore Baptist Church. Her radiant smile and sweet, sweet spirit brought much joy to all who knew and came in contact with Dorothy. Dorothy was famous in the community for her collards and biscuits (many remember the biscuits lessons Dorothy gave at the church). Dorothy gave freely of her time and talent to care for the sick and bereaved in the community. Most of all she loved her family. Her presence on this earth will surely be missed.
The family will receive friends 3 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 13, 2019 at Natmoore Baptist Church with service at 4:00 p.m. Pastor Greg Mott will conduct the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
