Michael Eugene Colwell

Michael “Mike” Eugene Colwell, 56, of Wallace passed from this life to his eternal rest on Tuesday, November 5, 2019.

He was born on April 16, 1963 in Cumberland County, NC to Carolyn McClure Colwell of Wallace and the late Eugene Council Colwell.  Mike was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Eugene Colwell, Asha Carr Colwell Dixon and Ernest Dixon and by his maternal grandparents, J.C. “Shine” and Virginia Hester McClure.   

In addition to his mother, Mike is survived by his sister, Suzanne Colwell of Winston-Salem; niece, Palynn; nephew, Jack; aunt, Brenda Colwell Mitchell and uncle, Neal of Greensboro and numerous extended family and friends that loved Mike dearly.

Mike was a kindhearted and caring son, brother and uncle.  He enjoyed the simplest things in life, but his greatest joy was family, especially Palynn and Jack.  Mike was always involved in the family business, Filters and Hydraulics, Inc.  Being a ‘genius’ at working on chain saws and other small engines, Mike could fix almost anything.  He was famous for how he would bet ($20) with those who brought their ‘flooded’ weed eater to the shop that he could crank it on the first pull.  He won the bet every time but one.  Mike was talented in many more ways than repairing small engines.  He could also write poetry.  Mike loved people and people loved Mike.  He never met a stranger.  He enjoyed his time at the shop where he acquired many friendships that lasted throughout the years. Mike will surely be missed but treasured memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.   

The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 8, 2019 at Rockfish Presbyterian Church with funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The Reverend Philip Siebbeles will conduct the service. At other times the family will be at the Colwell residence.

Burial will follow the funeral service in church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial gifts be sent to Rockfish Cemetery Fund, PO Box 247, Wallace, NC  28466.
