Oliver P. Stoddard, 96, of Wallace, NC, has fought a good fight, finished his course, and has kept the faith…. Therefore, he is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His earthly body took on immortality on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He was born on September 10, 1923 in Cleveland Ohio to the late Junior Earl and Jenny Joyce Stoddard.
Mr. Stoddard proudly served his country honorably in the United States Army during WWII and was a devoted member of Wallace First Assembly of God where he never missed a service. He truly loved his church and his Lord.
Oliver was a special man who enjoyed the simplest joys of life; he enjoyed going to church, Wednesday Morning Prayer Meeting and he loved to eat. With a witty sense of humor, Oliver loved people and he never met a stranger. He believed and trusted in the Word of God and knew the Bible. God’s Word was so important to him that once he thought he was going blind. During this time, his desire was to memorize God’s Word so that when he did go blind, he would still have the Word of God hidden in his heart. Mr. Stoddard set a great example by showing us important the Word of God should be in our hearts. His favorite scripture verse was Psalm 91. His life portrayed that verse because we see just how the Lord blessed him through all his years. Mr. Stoddard was loved by his church family. He will surely be missed but what a blessing to know that he is now in the presence of Jesus.
A memorial homecoming service for Mr. Stoddard will be at 3:00pm on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at Wallace First Assembly of God with Pastor Leo Bracken officiating.
Mr. Stoddard will be buried at Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley, NC.
