Virginia Henderson Powell

A kind and gentle soul, a gracious and loving lady, Virginia Henderson Powell, entered eternal rest on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at the age of 96. She was born October 14, 1922 in Wallace to the late Isaac Newton Henderson and Virginia Rosa Boney Henderson, living most of her life in Wallace.

     In addition to her parents Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, William Charles Powell, Sr.; and her brother, The Honorable David N. Henderson.

     Virginia is survived by her daughter, Virginia Ann Powell of Rose Hill; sons, William Charles Powell, Jr. (Lou) of Willard and John Newton “Mousey” Powell (Angela) of Wallace; grandchildren, Christopher C. Knowles, David Charles Powell (Kimberly), Nichole A. Anderson (Glenn), Grayson J. Powell, and Taylor R. Powell; great grandchildren, Emily, Rachel and Easton; nephew David Bruce Henderson whose frequent visits she enjoyed; and many other nieces, nephews and friends.

     She was a member of Wallace Presbyterian Church.  Virginia attended  Peace College and Montreat College.

     Filled with kindness, compassion and spirit, Virginia welcomed everyone she met into her wide circle of family and friends. Virginia loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her pets, Joy and Oreo, kept Virginia company as she spent many hours crocheting. Her radiant smile and joy in life will be remembered.

     The family will receive friends 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2019 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Wallace.

     Graveside funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2019 in Rockfish Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Philip Gladden conducting the service.

     The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staffs of Pender Memorial Hospital and Lower Cape Fear Hospice for the loving and excellent care given to Virginia.
