Flossie Matthews Harrell, 85, of Currie passed from her earthly life on Tuesday March 22, 2016 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born April 7, 1930 in Elizabethtown, the daughter of the late Henry Preston Matthews and Elizabeth Brock Matthews. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Andrea Benton.

Flossie is survived by her husband of 67 years Albert James "AJ" Harrell Jr.; her sons, Albert James "Jimmy" Harrell III (Cindy) of Currie, Randy Wayne Harrell (Pat) of Tallahassee, FL, Zane Lee Harrell of Currie; daughter, Hayley Elizabeth Wells (Keith) of Atkinson; grandchildren, Brandy Swinson, Preston Harrell, Brock Fowler, and Zack Fowler; great-grandchildren Cassie Swinson and Desray Swinson.

She attended Moores Creek Baptist Church and was member of Burgaw Belles Homemakers Club and W. Dudley Robbins American Legion Post 165 Ladies Auxiliary. Flossie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Many remember the beautiful and delicious cakes she baked and decorated for special occasions in people's lives. Flossie lived a life of humility, honestly, love, good humor and service to her faith, family, friends, and country. Flossie was loved and will be greatly missed.

Visitation with the family will be 2 to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday March 24, 2016 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with service beginning at 3:00 p.m. The Rev. Wayne Bateman will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Harrell Cemetery, Point Caswell Rd.
