Jerome Martin Higgins, 85, of Wilmington, passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, following a long illness.

He was born on January 25, 1933, in Essex County, New Jersey to the late Martin W. and Florence K. (Chadwick) Higgins.
Jerome was a US Army veteran who served during the Korea Conflict. He was a telephone engineer by trade. Jerome was a 31 year employee of New Jersey Bell and retired in 1985.
Jerome is survived by his loving wife Margeurite Ann (McGuinness) Higgins; sons, Michael Martin Higgins and his wife Cathy, of Warrenton, VA, Mark Patrick Higgins and his wife Christina, of Hackettstown, NJ, Timothy Jerome Higgins of Wilmington, NC, Jerome Christopher Higgins and his wife Ann Marie of Grayslake, IL; sisters, Jule Marie Hopkins, Ruth Drewnianny; sister-in-law, Pauline Higgins; grandchildren, Shannon Claudia Shell, Kyle Patrick Higgins, Rachel Josephine Higgins, Monica Irene Higgins, Eric Christopher Higgins, Michael Amanda Ahern, Connor Jerome Higgins, William Louis Higgins; great grandchild, Blake McKenzie Ahern.

In addition to his parents, Jerome was preceded in death by his brother, Gregory Higgins.

A funeral service will be held at the Basilica Shrine of Saint Mary in Wilmington on Friday, May 25, 2018, at 2:00 pm with Father Bob Kus officiating. Visitation will be hour prior to the service at the church.
