Obituary

Johnnie William Wells, 90, of Willard passed peacefully from his earthly life on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center.

He was born October 8, 1926 in Watha, the son of the late Arthur Graham and Liddie Rivenbark Wells. Also preceding Johnnie in death was the mother of their children, Doris Chadwick Wells; great grandson, Brent Ritterbusch; and brothers, Allen, W.E., and Nathan Wells.

Johnnie was a faithful member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church where he had served as a deacon and elder. He was a building contractor and an excellent carpenter who thoroughly enjoyed his work. He was known throughout Pender County and surrounding communities for his superb building skills.

Johnnie is survived by his wife, of 34 years, Julia Hall Wells; sons, Terry Wells (Wanda), Rev. Barry Wells (Patricia) and Michael Wells (Gena); daughter, Donna Maready (Frankie); step-children, Suzanne Graves (Loyd) and Debra Lanier; grandchildren, William Wells, Adam Wells, Amanda Gantt, Kelly Lanier, Samantha Wells, Jessica Ritterbusch, Greta Lassiter and Jonathan Maready; 15 great grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; brother, J. P. Wells (Sophia); sister, Deloris Chadwick; his canine companion, "Oscar" and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Johnnie was a devoted husband and caring father, grandfather and brother who loved his family dearly. He was a people's person and loved to mingle with others and especially enjoyed discussing politics. Being an avid outdoorsman, Johnnie enjoyed farming and hunting. He was a jokester and comedian who enjoyed making others laugh. Johnnie will surely be missed but treasured memories will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

The family will receive friends 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw with service beginning at 2:00pm. The Rev. Ralph Evans will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park.

Casketbearers will be Jonathan Maready, Stuart Wells, Jason Johnson, Loyd Graves, Trey Ritterbusch and William Wells.
