Obituary

Lester James LaSure Jr., most affectionately known as "Jim" by friends and family, passed away Monday July 3rd, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loved ones. Jim was born on May 19, 1932 to father, Lester James LaSure Sr. and mother, Tommy Kiker LaSure. He had one younger sister, Bobbi Rich, now deceased.

Jim graduated from New Hanover High School. During the Korean Conflict, he served in the United States Army and was stationed for 2 years in Germany. After Jim's military service, he pursued an Industrial Engineering degree at NC State University. Upon completion of his degree, Jim joined the GE Manufacturing Training Program. He was employed with GE for 40 years, until his retirement.

Jim and Kay LaSure both loved travelling and exploring new places together, but called Wilmington, NC home. Jim and Kay lived for 36 years in the home Jim designed and built off Greenville Loop Rd. Jim was a member of Winter Park Baptist Church where he often served as a "greeter" on Sundays.

Jim will be remembered as a loving and charismatic father and grandfather, a skilled builder and craftsman, a talented landscaper and gardener, and an avid pool shark. He loved the ocean and the outdoors.

Jim is survived by his wife, five children, and eight grandchildren.

The family will hold a graveside service at Oleander Memorial Gardens on Saturday July 8th, 2017 at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Jim's honor to Winter Park Baptist Church; 4700 Wrightsville Ave, Wilmington, NC 28403.
