Addison Kermit Porter, age 81, died peacefully Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at his home with his beloved family by his side.
He was born August 7, 1927 in Kelly to Joseph Addison and Naomi Almond Porter. Kermit was also predeceased by his brothers, Lawrence, Charles, Clayton and Broadus Porter; step-mother, Mamie Sherman Peterson Porter; step-brothers, Carson, Paul and Jesse Peterson; and step-sisters, Nora and Elsie Peterson.
Surviving are his devoted wife of 55 years, Elizabeth "Dibble" Gray Porter of the home; loving daughter, Jennifer Lynn Porter of Burgaw; and brother, J. A. Porter of Wilmington. Also surviving are two that called him, Pa, Michael "Tony" Scott (Kathy) and Lonnie J. Moosman. He was grandpa to Mikey, Conrad and Ryan Scott and to Kelly Moosman. Special to him were Claire Jenkins, Toby Southerland and many extended family and friends. He also loved and was loved by all of his in-laws.
Mr. Porter served his country honorably in the US Army. He was a faithful member of Oleander United Methodist Church where through the years he participated in many church activities with the Men's Club being his favorite.
Kermit was employed specializing in brake and wheel alignment with C. C. Grissom for 13 years and with Cape Fear Motor Sales for 37 years.
On Friday, July 3, 2009 the family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., one hour prior to the funeral service at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
Following the visitation the funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with The Rev. Linda Taylor officiating.
Burial will follow in Woodcock Cemetery, Atkinson.
Casketbearers and honorary casketbearers will be nephews of Kermit Porter.
The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Gerald Points, his office staff including, Janice Johnson and Arlene Maronny; Lower Cape Fear Hospice staff including Dr. Audrey Sutton-Surak, Monica Bass, Lynn Futrell, Sheila Sykes, Joyce Messick, Ann Studdard, Judy Cromer, and Parthena Skipper; Connie Bell and Betty Broadhurst; and family members, all who gave love, support, care and comfort.
