Agnes Earlene West, age 89, of Willard died Wednesday, March 04, 2009 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. West was born November 23, 1919 in Robeson County and was the daughter of the late Harvey Anderson and Cora Britt Taylor. She was also predeceased by her husband, Wallace Mitchell West; daughter-in-law, Barbara West; sons-in-law, Carlos Batts and Richard Carl Ginn, Sr.; sister, Clara Mae Taylor; and brothers, Carton Taylor, H.T. Taylor and Ervin Taylor.
She was a member of Willard Baptist Church.
Surviving are her loving family; her children, Louis Mitchell West and wife, Phyllis, of Mountain City, Tennessee, Barbara Ginn of Warsaw and Sylvia Lynn Baker and husband, Kenneth "Rabbi", of Magnolia, Kenneth Lee West and wife, Sue, of Goldsboro and William Carey West and wife, Sandra, of Watha; grandchildren, Chris West, Tiffany Wiggins, Mitch Batts, Anthony Batts, Douglas Baker, Kevin Baker, Felicia Preston, Angela Turner, Scott West and Beth West; and fifteen great grandchildren.
Earlene was a devoted wife and loving, caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She loved and served the Lord, her church and her Sunday school class. When Earlene's children were young she sewed many a garment for them from farm feed sacks and was considered the best feed sack seamstress in North Carolina. She and Wallace raised their children in a Christian home and instilled in them to be trustworthy and hardworking. She was an avid Duke Basketball fan and didn't miss their games on TV. Until 3 weeks ago Earlene maintained her home, drove her car and took care of herself - a blessing for a lady of 89 years. Cherished memories of Earlene will always remain in our hearts.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Willard Baptist Church with The Rev. David Knowles and The Rev. Horace Hawes officiating.
Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park, Watha.
Casketbearers will be Chris West, Mitch Batts, Anthony Batts, Douglas Baker, Kevin Baker, and Scott West, all grandson of Mrs. West.
Honorary bearers will be Tiffany Wiggins, Felicia Preston, Angela Turner, and Beth West, all granddaughters of Mrs. West.
The family will receive friends 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
