Alexander Ray Matthews, age 33, of Willard, left this earthly life for his eternal rest after a courageous battle with heart disease.

He was born on April 6, 1986 in Wilmington, NC and was the son of Dennis Matthews, Sr. (Louise Chadwick) of Willard and Diane Pittman Nazworth of Rose Hill.

Surviving, in addition to his parents is his precious daughter, Anna Marie Matthews of Willard; his brothers, Dennis Matthews, Jr. of Rose Hill and Brandon Chadwick of Wallace; loving aunts, and uncles, Violet Lanier and husband, Bobby of Rose Hill, Pam Oswald and husband, Doug of Willard, Susan Brown and husband, George of Rose Hill, Glenda Matthews of Greensboro, Earl Matthews of Willard and Scotty Matthews and wife, Lynn of Willard; special cousin, Dawn Bentz of Wilmington and numerous extended family and friends that loved Alexander dearly.

Alex, as he was affectionately called, was a loving daddy and caring son.  He found great joy in the simplest things of life, but his greatest joy was spending time with family.  He was a hard worker who was devoted to his job.  With a humble spirit, Alex was easy-going, loved others and was loved in return.  Above all, Alex greatest love was Anna Marie. She was his pride and joy, the love of his life and everything in the world to him.  Alex was fun-loving and was a joy to be around.  Alex will surely be missed but treasured memories of him will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

There will be a memorial service for Alex on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at 3:30pm at Friendly Community Baptist Church in Burgaw with Pastor Roger Brittingham officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial gifts be given in memory of Alex to Friendly Community Baptist Church, 1730 NC US Hwy 117 N, Burgaw, NC  28425.
