Alexander \\"Alex\\" Cameron McDowell, age 13, of the Montague Community of Currie passed from this earth to his eternal home on Wednesday, March 26, 2008.

Alex was born May 17, 1994 in Wilmington, the beloved son of Tamara McDowell and beloved grandson of Glenda McDowell. He was also survived by his step-grandmother, Debbie McDowell; uncles, Scott McDowell and wife, Jennifer, Vernon McDowell and his daughter, Sumer, and a very special uncle, Jeff McDowell and his partner, Chad Scroppo; great aunts, Darlene Lanier and Grace Ricker; great uncle, Robert Jordan and his wife, Nancy; cousins, Kim Padgett and her husband, Glenn and their children, Jayde and Kamryn Padgett, Kristi Byers and her husband, Tommy and their children, Malya, Haylei and Rylen Byers; and special friend, Patricia (Twitter) Smith.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Vernon (Grand-Buddy) McDowell, Sr., and uncles, Larry Lanier and Joe Ricker, Sr.

Alex was in the 8th grade at West Pender Middle School where he was loved by all his classmates and he loved them in return. With a happy smile and joy in his heart Alex loved life and especially enjoyed fishing and riding his four wheeler. He attended Long Creek Baptist Church.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Long Creek Baptist Church with The Reverend Wayne Bateman officiating.

Burial will follow in Malpass Memorial Cemetery at Long Creek Baptist Church.

Casketbearers will be Randy Warren, Gregory Cunningham, Mark Pender, Ronnie Harris, Justin McClenny, Bradley Atkinson, Richard Whealton, and Justin Massey.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home of Glenda McDowell.
