Apr 21, 1934 — Jan 6, 2023
Alfred Charles Owens, 88, of Willard passed gently into the glory of his Lord Friday, January 6, 2023 at his home with much love surrounding him.
He was born April 21, 1934 in Pender County, the son of the late Donnie and Exie Woodcock Owens.
Alfred is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Carrie Owens; children, Karen Pate (Wayne), Charles Owens, Penny Currier (Vance), and Gayle Crabbe (Allan); grandchildren, Jennifer Davis (Dave), Eric Pate (Ren), Crystal Currier, Jason Crabbe (Brittany) and Johnathan Crabbe (Alexandra); great grandchildren, Stella, Cora, Emma, and Zachary; sisters, Gertie Wells, Sophie Wells, and Linda Allen; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members all who loved Alfred.
He was retired from Westinghouse Electric Corporation after working many years as a nuclear engineer. Alfred, a Christian man, was a faithful and supportive member of Coras Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.
He served the community by being an integral part of a food bank ministry as well as a bread ministry. He was known by many as "the bread man". He delivered to those who were unable to gather for pickup and was known on occasion to sneak sweets into the nursing home! He participated in local improvements for healthcare by being on the board of directors for Pender Memorial Hospital and establishing a location for a medical clinic in Pender County. He dedicated his time, energy, and resources he had or could obtain to assist those in the community and his church.
The family will gather at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2023 for a time of viewing/visitation at Riverview Memorial Park with graveside service beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Randy Little conducting the service.

With grateful hearts Alfred's family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Community Home Care and Hospice for the loving care given to Alfred and support to our family.
