Alice Ray Byrd Blackburn, 77, of Wallace, left this life for her eternal rest on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center in Wilmington.
Born January 22, 1938 in Duplin County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mamie Miller Byrd. Also lovingly remembered are her husband, Harold Blackburn; sisters, Susie Boone, Betty Lou Byrd, Helen Faye Byrd, and Erma Byrd.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Connie Duff and husband, Jimmy of Wallace, Ronnie Blackburn and wife, Debbie of Harrells, Toni Sanderson and husband, Wayne of Wallace, Tina O'Connell of Wallace; grandchildren, Wendy Wells and husband, Roy, Jamie Duff, and wife, Bibbi, Ashley Duff, Carrie Rivenbark and husband, Adam, Jennifer Blackburn, Claude Blackburn, Candace Sanderson, Shane Sanderson and wife, Bianca, Brandi O'Connell, Christopher Blackburn; great grandchildren, Logan Wells, Easton Duff, Tyler Duff, Brodie Duff, Ashton Duff, Zalie Rivenbark, Zander Rivenbark, Alissa Brown, Wayne Sanderson, Mason Sanderson, J.T. Blackburn and Coty Blackburn, sister, Lois Rochelle and husband, Bill of Jacksonville; brothers, Johnnie Byrd and Tommy Byrd, both of Mount Olive, Allen Byrd and wife, Thelma of Wallace and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Alice was a devoted mother and caring grandmother and sister who loved her family dearly. She found great joy in the simplest of things, but her greatest joy was family. With a big heart for her children and grandchildren, she was always there for each of them. Alice will surely be missed but cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Funeral service will be held at 6:00pm on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with Pastor April Jones officiating.
The family will receive friends following the funeral service until 8:30pm on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Harrells Community Cemetery in Harrells, NC.
