Alice Jean Buie Proctor died at St. Francisville Country Manor in St. Francisville, Louisiana on May 22, 2016. She was born in Steele, Alabama September 10, 1915, grew up on a beautiful Alabama farm and graduated from Collinsville High School. She was one of eight children.
She is survived by her son, Garland Larry Buie of St. Francisville and daughter, Rebecca Buie Camak and husband, Pascal Camak of Pine Knoll Shores NC. Also, grandchildren, Stephen Neal Camak, and wife, Holly of Raleigh, NC, Elizabeth English Camak of Swansboro, NC , Stephanie B. Boudreaux, Palmetto, Louisiana, Marietta Buie, Palmetto, Louisiana and Kristy Hutchins of Palmetto, Louisiana, and 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Betty Jo Whaley of Gasden, Alabama, Lydia Bell Stephens of Attalla, Alabama and Pauline Kirby of Ft. Payne, Alabama.
She was preceded in death by husband, Garland Buie of Wilmington, NC, to whom she was married 55 years. She was also preceded in death by second husband, Grady Montgomery Proctor of Wilmington. She met and married Grady Proctor when she was 87 and he was 91 while they were living at The Woods at Holly Tree in Wilmington, NC. Her family was her greatest joy and she never turned down a chance to babysit or help out. She and Garland were avid gardeners and children can still remember her sharing arm loads of beautiful flowers in the Spring and Summer. She was also a great cook and expert seamstress. After leaving the Woods at Holly Tree, she lived for 17 months with her daughter, Rebecca and then went to visit in St. Francisville with son and grandchildren. For the last two years, she was able to be with both families at the end of her life. She was a longtime member of Grace Baptist Church in Wilmington.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 31 at 2pm in Oleander Memorial Gardens, officiated by Grace Baptist Church of Wilmington, NC
