Allen "Poley" James Garner, age 76, of Wilmington, NC passed away on June 8, 2023.

He was born on June 20, 1946 in Duplin County, NC to the late Thurman James Garner and Lettie Katherine Sanderson Garner.

Allen was a Vietnam Army Veteran who served as a Military Police dog handler during the war. He met the love of his life, Dolores, at the American Legion in Wallace when they were both in their teens. This upcoming December 31, 2023 would have been their 58-year wedding anniversary. Allen, a member of Northside Church, enjoyed classic cars and motorcycles. Most of all, Allen loved his grandkids and his family.

Allen is survived by his wife, Dolores Garner; son, David Allen Garner; daughter, Sheila Ann Garner Watts; brother, Simeon Garner; grandchildren, Katherine Yvonne Gurganus (Kenneth), Emily Frances Benton, Christopher Wayne Watts, and Johnathon James Watts (Bethany); great-grandchildren, Damon, Aiden, Damien, Bryson, Joshua, Makenzie, and Hayden; and his beloved dog, Teddy.

Allen was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Franklin Garner; and sister, Alice Fay Martin.

A funeral service will be held at Northside Church, 2501 N. College Road, Wilmington, NC 28405, on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at 11am with Pastor Mike Morley and Pastor Rob Strickland officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1311 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC 28412.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions in memory of Allen may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
