Alma Whaley Mathews, 94, of Wallace and formerly of Harrells left this earthly life and entered joyfully into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, September 5, 2015.
She was born on February 10, 1921 in Duplin County and was one of nine children born to David John Whaley, Sr. and Geneva Wood Whaley. She was also predeceased by her husband, William Edward Mathews, sisters, Louise Benton Williams, Gertrude Denkins, Mary Bivins and Ella Mae Pleasants; brothers, Charles Whaley, David John Whaley, Jr. and Johnny Whaley; granddaughter, Yvette Everett and son-in-law, Carey Everett.
Alma was a life-long dedicated member of Wallace Pentecostal Holiness Church where she attended faithfully as long as her health permitted.
She is survived by 3 loving daughters, Kay Everett of Wallace, Linda Giddens and husband, Kenneth of Goldsboro and Wanda Mobley and husband, Donnie of Wallace; grandchildren, Kevin Everett and wife, Amy, Andrea Dixon and husband, John, Brian Giddens and wife, Tammy, Kimberly Jackson, Amanda Giddens, Michelle Trull, Derek Mobley and wife, Donna and Jeremy Mobley and wife, Malina; 16 great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Rouse of Goldsboro and numerous nieces and nephews that loved Alma dearly.
Alma was a devoted mother and caring grandmother and sister who loved her family dearly. She was a shining light for Jesus, a prayer warrior and a Christian example to all who knew her. Being a doer of the Word not just a hearer, Alma showed her love for Christ and others by her actions. Her life was devoted to loving and praying for her family as well as for others. Alma was a gift to this world and was loved by so many. She will surely be missed but her family and friends are comforted in knowing that she is now rejoicing in Heaven with Jesus and loved ones gone before her.

A celebration of Alma's life will be held at 3:00pm on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the Wallace Pentecostal Holiness Church with her pastor, the Reverend Bobby Smith officiating.
Burial will follow the service at Riverview Memorial Park, Watha.
Casketbearers will be Kevin Everett, Brian Giddens, Derek Mobley, Jeremy Mobley, Tim Whaley and Harvey Jones.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00pm, one hour prior the service on Tuesday at the church and other times at the home of Donnie and Wanda Mobley.
