Obituary

Alma Ruth Garris Padgett, age 80, of Watha, left this earthly life on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, for her eternal home where she will forever be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She was born on November 18, 1941, in Pender County, NC.; the daughter of the late Bernice Warren and Lena Wells Garris.  She was also predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Donald Rozelle Padgett and her brother, Warren Garris.

Mrs. Padgett was a dedicated Christian whose life was a great example of the Lord she served. She was a life-long devoted member of Watha Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, served in the Ladies Auxiliary, sang in the choir and hosted numerous prayer meetings in her home.

Surviving to cherish her memory is her daughter, Roslyn Padgett and husband, Pablo Frez of Durham; her son, Jeff Padgett and wife Sharon of Charlotte; grandchildren, Preston Frez, Bradley Padgett, Jamie Padgett and wife Gaby, and Ainsley Padgett; great granddaughters, Elle Padgett and Emma Padgett; sisters, Frances Beasley of Warsaw and Gail Sholar of Wallace; brother, Douglas Garris of Watha; numerous extended family and friends that loved Alma dearly.

Alma was a loving mother and caring grandmother, sister, and friend.  She enjoyed many things in life, but her greatest joys were serving the Lord and spending time with family.   She was a diligent homemaker and talented seamstress.  With a joyful spirit and giving heart, she filled her home with love and welcomed all who entered. Alma had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh and to make others laugh.  She loved people and people loved her.  Alma especially loved children and she took care of numerous children throughout the years who have never forgotten her love for them. She lived her life based on Christian principles and instilled these Christian values in her children and others.  Alma was dedicated to her family, her church, community and was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed. She will surely be missed but her family and friends are comforted knowing that she is where she has strived to be – in the presence of Jesus.  Treasured memories of Alma will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Graveside service will be held at 1:00p.m. on Monday, July 25, 2022, at Watha United Methodist Church Cemetery.
