Alton C. "Bud" Carter Jr. went home to be with his personal Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 06, 2012 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Bud, the son of the late Alton and Sally Sholar Carter was born on July 16, 1942 in Wilmington, NC. He was also predeceased by his sister, his daughters, Lori Ann Carter, Annette and Jeanette Carter and his son, James "Jimmy" Mark Higgins.
He is survived by the love of his life, having shared the last 33 years together, his wife, Kathy Amerson Carter, his son, John Edward "Eddie" Higgins III (Amy) of Shallotte; grandson, Joshua Higgins; granddaughter, Beth Higgins Jones and father-in-law, Clyde Amerson Jr. of Wilmington.
Family was very special to Bud. Being a husband to Kathy and a father to Eddie and Jimmy was a top priority. Bud and Kathy began their life's journey by including Eddie and Jimmy on their honeymoon. Bud was active in the boy's church life by leading by example of taking them to church and not sending them. Bud was very active in his church, First Assembly of God of Wallace, having served on several committee's and boards. Serving his personal Lord and Savior to the best of his abilities was his deepest desire. He truly walked the walk that he talked about.
Bud is also survived by a very special "son " Eric Carter (Stephanie) and their children Blake, Ashlyn, Kassidy, and Kristen; special "daughter", Candy Madden (Davin) and their children, Karley and Brayan; special "granddaughter", Erica Dixon (Joe) and special "grandson", Clifton Carter (Ashley) and their mother, Lisa Baker and very special "great grandchildren", Joshua, Allianah and Brayden. Special family members, Coy and Marie Carter and their children, Clay and Michael; Dick and Dottie Carter, all of Wallace and Charles and Judy Norris of Sneads Ferry; special friends, Charlie and Sally Eakins, Mike Garner and fiancée, Debra Eason, Bill and Carolyn Haggins, Mary and Joe Powell and children, Jason and Mary Beth and Sharon and Jerry Boney; brother-in law, Clyde Amerson Sr. (Barbara), sisters-in-law, Jackie Bowden (Jim)and Sharon Amerson and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Bud also has extended family and friends at Ag-Protein in Rose Hill and the former JP Stevens Steve-Co Knit plant in Wallace.
The family would like to send a special "thank you" to the nurses in the CCU and IC-Surgical units as well as the nurses on the 7th floor at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm with a Celebration of Life service beginning at 7:00pm at First Assembly Church of God, 212 West Main Street, Wallace with the Reverend Leo Bracken, the Reverend Julian McMillan and the Reverend Larry Murray officiating. The family will also receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
Interment will be at 11:00am, Thursday, October 11, 2012 in the Carter Family Cemetery,South NC Hwy 41, Wallace.
