Amelia Whitaker Morrison Beall passed away on October 19, 2008, at the age of 95 at Liberty Commons Nursing Center in Wilmington, NC. She was born in Maughn, Alberta, Canada, on April 8, 1913, the daughter of the late Robert Henry and Euphemia Farmer Morrison. She is survived by her son Charles Egerton Beall, of Toronto, Ontario, three daughters Janet Ward of Wilmington, NC, Mimi Whitney of Colchester, VT, and Kathleen Beall of Woodville, Ontario; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Desmond Beall, daughter Helen Beall, and sisters Mary Morrison and Elizabeth Morrison.
Amelia grew up in Canada where she earned a B.Sc. in Agriculture from McGill University in Montreal in 1935. She worked as a microbiologist in the Montreal area until she married in 1945, when she began a new career as a loving and devoted wife and mother. In 1953, the family moved to Chazy, NY, and in 1964, to Rouses Point, NY. Amelia was active in the North Country Girl Scout Council, the Chazy Methodist Church, and Christ and St. Johns Episcopal Church in Champlain. In 1975, she and Desmond moved to Wilmington where she was active in the Seaman's Service Center, the Hobby Green House, and St. Pauls and St. James Episcopal Churches. In 1997, they moved to Lake Shore Commons where she lived until several weeks before her death.
A memorial service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, Wilmington, NC at 11 a.m. on October 22, 2008.
