ANNIE RUTH DILLON BARNES
After 86 years of life, Annie Ruth Dillon Barnes, of Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 26, 2014 to be with her Lord Jesus Christ. She lived a long and blessed life and was loved by everyone that knew her. Ann was born on November 2, 1927 in Woolwine, Virginia to parents Hillery and Maggie Dillon. Ann was one of nine children. Her brother Harold and sisters Thelma, Gertrude, Iris, Edna, and Ethel preceded her in death. Her two surviving sisters are Lou Hall of Kinston, NC and Carleene Davis of Chattanooga,TN.
Ann married Thomas Wilson Barnes, also of Virginia, on February 7, 1948. They enjoyed 66 years of blissful marriage together. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her interests included flower gardening, family & friends, church activities and traveling with Tom to many places throughout the world. They made friends wherever they visited. She was an exceptional friend to all who knew her and will be remembered for her love of life, her laughter, and her compassionate heart. Ann and Tom became members of Wesley United Methodist Church shortly after moving to Wilmington in 2008. Previously they lived in Camden, South Carolina for 37 years.
Ann is survived by her husband, Tom; sons, Thomas Wilson Barnes, Jr. & wife, Marsha of Lebanon, TN, Jerry Dillon Barnes & wife, Suzanne of Seaford, DE, and Kenneth Dee Barnes & wife, Elizabeth of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Valarie Barnes Dalton & husband, Richard of Nashville, TN, Hilary Barnes of Atlanta, GA, Will Barnes of Knoxville, TN, Jeremy Barnes & wife, Shannon of San Diego, CA, Carrie Barnes, of Atlanta, GA, Brett Barnes of Seaford, DE, and Kelly Barnes Smith & husband, Gerald of Eaton, Ohio; great grandchildren, Skylar Barnes, Braylon Barnes, Zoe Barnes, Gideon Smith, Aubrey Smith, Griffon Smith, and Annabelle Smith.
Visitation and Memorial Services are at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Bradley Creek Chapel, at 315 Willow Woods Dr., Wilmington, NC. 28409. Visitation is from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, August 1, 2014 and 10 to 11 am on Saturday, August 2, 2014. Following the Saturday visitation, a Memorial Service will be held at 11 am. The Reverend Margaret Hockett and Reverend Beth Hood will be officiating the service. Dr. Bettsy Curtis will provide the music.
