Ann
Cottle
November 27, 1937 – November 26, 2023
Ann Southerland Cottle, 85, of Willard, NC, passed from this earthly life to her eternal rest on Sunday, November 26, 2023.
She was born on November 27, 1937, in Sampson County; the daughter of the late Jesse Carl and Nanny Winnefred Kornegay Southerland. Ann was preceded by her husband, Roy Eugene (Gene) Cottle, Sr. and by her siblings, Jean Cope and Wooten Southerland.
Ann was known for many accomplishments; straight A student, journalist, photographer, teacher, and author. She was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. But above all, she was a Christian and did her best to live her life to glorify the Lord and served him as an active member of Potts Memorial Presbyterian Church as well as in her community. She had a big heart that was gentle and kind, not just for family and friends, but for the less fortunate. She would bring home strays, whether they had two legs or four, for her and Gene to love and care for as long as they needed a loving home. Ann and Gene's love knew no boundaries and for many years, they supported children in other countries.
A woman of uncommon character, beauty and grace; and to those who knew her, "an instrument of God's love on this earth." She was a friend to all, a strong yet gentle presence who looked for and encouraged the best in everyone. Ann will surely be missed though treasured memories will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her children; Roy Cottle, Jr. and wife, Lisa, of Penderlea, Teresa Hurst and husband, Brian, of Raleigh and Neil Cottle of Penderlea; grandchildren, Phillip Woodcock and wife, Madelon, and Ashley Caldwell and husband, David; great grandson, David "D.J." Caldwell; brothers and sisters in law, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and great friends that loved Ann dearly.
