Anna Cornelia "NeNe" Creech Barnhill, 78, a vibrant, gracious, and loving lady passed from her earthly life Saturday, May 23, 2026 surrounded with love and family.

She was born March 22, 1948 in Columbus County, the daughter of the late Herbert Linwood Creech and Anna Mayers Creech.

Cornelia is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Robert M. Barnhill; sons, Dr. Robert M. "Robby" Barnhill, Jr. and wife, Stephanie and Jeffrey Barnhill and wife, Lanee; grandchildren, Hannah Plafcan (Max), Ty Barnhill, Hunter Barnhill, and Caden Barnhill; and many friends who dearly loved NeNe, as Cornelia was affectionately nick-named.

For 42 years Cornelia opened her home and heart for child day care where she loved and nurtured each and every child that was entrusted into her care.

Cornelia was a fantastic Nana and Grandma-ma to her beloved four grandchildren who were shining joys in her and Robert's life. On weekends and holidays Cornelia loved nothing better than her time spent at Surf City wearing her flip-flops and getting a great tan from the beach sun. Cornelia had a servant's heart and spent her life caring for others. She fought hard and remained courageous showing strength and grace throughout her illness. Though her absence leaves an ache in the hearts of those who loved Cornelia, the faith, warmth, and love she poured into others will continue to live on in the lives she touched. NeNe will truly be missed by so many folks that loved her.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2026 at Burgaw Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Justice conducting the service. Burial will follow in Riley's Creek Memorial Cemetery.
