Obituary

Annie Mae Horrell Anders, age 90, of Ivanhoe died Monday, June 8, 2009 at Pender Memorial Hospital.

She was born July 22, 1918 in Pender County to Rufus Carr Horrell and Mattie Lee Brown Horrell. She was also predeceased by her husband, Hayes Wilson Anders and brothers, Lawrence, Norwood and Colon Horrell.

Surviving are her devoted family: her daughters, Martha "Sue" Newton (Neal) of Burgaw and Louise A. Brown (Crandell) of Ivanhoe; son, Neill W. Anders (Sue) of Ivanhoe; grandchildren, Becky Lane (Phil), Gregg Newton (Drenda), Kelly Powers (Eddie), Keith Brown, Crystal Perry (Doug) and Michelle Kline; 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Dyson of Raleigh and Gertie Hilton of Warsaw; brothers, Carey Horrell, Sr. of Ivanhoe and Hayes Horrell of Wilmington; and many nieces and nephews.

Annie Mae, a true Southern lady, was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She loved and was loved dearly by her family and everyone who met her. Annie Mae loved the Lord and she showed this love in every facet of her life. She was a dedicated member of Harmony Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder. She and Hayes created a Christian home filled with love and instilled Christian values in her children and grandchildren. In her younger years her love of nature and green thumb was revealed in her bountiful garden and beautiful flowers that graced her yard. The beautiful smile, warm heart and gentle nature of Annie Mae will forever remain in our hearts.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2209 at Harmony Presbyterian Church with Pastor Herbert Pate, The Rev. Gregg Newton, the Rev. Dr. Keith Brown, and The Rev. Eddie Powers officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Carey Horrell, Jr., Kevin Horrell, Gene Horrell, Arden Horrell, Jimmy Horrell, Alton Anders, and Wayne Horrell.

Honorary bearers will be Lynn Hilton, Ronnie Horrell, Tom Clem, Jimmy Anders, Rob Shaw and great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Burgaw, and at other times will be at the home of Annie Mae Anders.

Flowers are welcome and memorial gifts may be given to Harmony Presbyterian Church, C/O Roland Pendergrass, 5340 Tomahawk Hwy, Harrells, NC 28444 or to the charity of your choice.

Annie Mae's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the 2nd Floor Skilled Nursing Care staff at Pender Memorial Hospital for the tender loving care that they gave Annie Mae.
