Obituary

Annie Highsmith Carlton, 82, of Rocky Point gently passed away on Friday, August 19, 2011 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born January 1, 1929 in Pender County to the late Emmett Charles and Effie Page Highsmith. Annie is survived by her devoted family; her sons and daughters-in-law, Lewis and Debbie Carlton and Steve and Doris Carlton all of Rocky Point; grandchildren, Leeann Sanchez (Rick), Mitchell Carlton (Aleah), Shawn Carlton and Johnny Carlton; great grandson, Nathaniel Lee Carlton; and brother, Charles Highsmith (Margie) of Rocky Point; and many nieces and nephews.

Annie was in the 1st graduating class of 12 grades of Long Creek Grady High School and she also received a business degree from Flora MacDonald College. Annie was faithful member of Herrings Chapel United Methodist Church where she was active in the UMW. For 33 proud years Annie was a member of AA.

With a joyful spirit, contagious laugh and sparkling personality Annie lived her life with love always caring for her family, church family and friends. Annie was an excellent cook and enjoyed sharing her recipes. One cannot forget Annie's strong Christian faith that has carried her through many years of sobriety of which was a testament of her strength of character and a positive example to others. Annie leaves a family that loves her dearly and cherishes her memory.

Funeral service will be at 3:00 on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with The Rev. Rick Russell officiating. Burial will follow in Burgaw Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 p.m. until the hour of service.
