Obituary

Annie Bell Squires Carroll, age 90, of Currie died Sunday, April 18, 2010 at Pender Memorial Hospital.

She was born August 25, 1919 in Pender County, the daughter of the late Thomas Lee and Bessie Applewhite Flynn. Remembered is her husband, Guthrie Willis Squires who died in 1942. She later married Johnnie I. Carroll who died in 1957. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Mary Jo Williams; sisters, Janie Bullard and Allene Moore; and brothers, Bennie Lee Flynn and T. J. Flynn.

Annie Bell is survived by her loving family; her son and daughter-in-law, Jerrell V. and Hattie Squires; grandchildren, Gary Squires, Jerry Squires and Judy S. Cox and her husband, James; great granddaughter, Camden Brooke Cox; sisters, Frances Norris, Estelle Sykes and Mavis Squires; and many devoted nieces and nephews.

Annie Bell was a long time faithful member of Canetuck Baptist Church. Until a year ago when her health began to decline she most enjoyed being outdoors in God's beautiful world; working in the vegetable garden, feeding the chickens, gathering eggs and even checking on the pigs. Annie Bell was a kind, thoughtful and caring soul who for so many, many years dearly loved her family, her Lord and her community. Her quiet manner, sense of humor and steadfast faith will always be remembered.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Canetuck Baptist Church with the Rev. William Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Flynn Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Tommy Norris, Dale Norris, Dean Sykes, David Flynn, Cecil Eakins, Kenneth Moore, Dennis Davis and Robert Moore.

The family will receive friends 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
