Annie Earl Jones Smith, age 89, of Rocky Point and formerly of Penderlea died Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Pender Memorial Hospital.

She was born January 30, 1920 in Greene County, the daughter of the late Lee and Annis Faulkner Jones. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Allen Smith, Sr.; sons, John Allen Smith, Jr., Elton Bruce Smith and Raymond Earl Smith and grandsons, Terry Smith and Raymond Smith.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Rickey and Donna Smith of Hampstead; daughter and son-in-law, Virgie and Alvin Pierce of Rocky Point; grandchildren, Charles Smith, Jennifer Pridgen, Johnna Baranowski, Dean Smith, Susie Guyton, Patricia Pigford, Michael Smith, Jackie Manning, Jeffrey Smith and Kayla Smith; twenty great grandchildren; two great great granddaughters; sister, Allie Sutton of Washington; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Penderlea Baptist Church.

Annie was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was strong in spirit, steadfast in her faith and loving in manner. She found great joy in the simplest of things, but her greatest joy was her family that she loved unconditionally. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, word games and reading- a lady of many talents. Annie and John Allen created a home filled with sunshine and goodness, raising five children. She was blessed with a love for the Lord and a faith that took her through an extended illness. Annie's family is grateful to God for her life, for your friendship and for your kindness and prayers.

A graveside funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Riverview Memorial Park with The Rev. Phillip Jones officiating..
