Archie James "Pete" Gideon, 75, of Hampstead passed from his earthly life to his eternal rest on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Davis Community Rehabilitation Center.
He was born January 11, 1937 in Pender County, the son of the late Taft and Lorena Groves Gideon.
Surviving is his devoted wife of 49 years, Gwenn Bryant Gideon; son, Todd Gideon (Lynn) of Hampstead; daughter, Terri Gideon Hall (Mac) of Surf City; grandchildren, Cameron Hall, Reid Hall and Mason Gideon; sister, Vernell Futrell (Charles) of Willard; brothers, Solon Gideon (Lucille) of Willard, Ray Gideon of Surf City and Glenn Gideon (Brenda) of Wallace and a large circle of extended family and friends.
Pete founded Gideon's Refrigeration in Wallace in 1967 and expanded to Surf City in 1985 which is now Gideon's Heating and Air Conditioning. He served his country honorably in the NC National Guard. Pete with two friends, Buzzy and Bobby, created a band, "The Rebels", which was popular in the late 50's and early 60's. Being a sharing and caring man, Pete was responsible for many events to raise funds for folks in need or with medical bills. For many years he cooked for the Boy Scouts annual fund raiser.
Pete was a man of honor and integrity who took the best of care of his family that he loved so dearly. Pete, a quiet man, enriched this world in which he lived by sharing his love, talents, knowledge, humor and zest for life. His memory is cherished and he will be missed.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 16, 2012 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with the Rev. Don Myers officiating.
Burial will follow in Sea Lawn Memorial Park.
Casketbearers will be Cameron Hall, Reid Hall, Mason Gideon, Lacy Atkinson, Hugh Cannady, Wayne Lanier, Randy Futrell, and Mac Hall. Honorary bearers will be Bobby Blanton, Buzzy Holland, Allen Mobley, John Callahan, Carl Johnson, Mark Sloan, and Bobby Andrews.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home of Pete and Gwenn Gideon.
Memorial gifts may be given to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401 or to the charity of one's choice.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Audrey Sutton-Surak, nurse Jennifer Buckley, and the entire staff of Davis Community Rehabilitation Center for the excellent loving, care given to Pete during his illness.
