Arlie Cleo Bevis, 81, of Wilmington passed from his earthly life on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center.
He was born September 9, 1934 in Wayne County, TN and grew up in Florence, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Hattie Holt Bevis; son, Arlie C. Bevis; sisters, Vertie Cook, Pearl Willingham, Blanche Campbell and Lois Gobbell; and brothers, Romine, Owen and Gene Bevis.
Arlie is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Betty Slaton Bevis; son, Joseph Russell "Rusty" Bevis (Lori) of Wilmington; brother, Joe Bevis of Florence, AL and many extended family and friends.
Arlie served his country honorably in the US Air Force in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was a member of Church of Christ. He was a retail manager at JC Penny, retiring after working 35 years.
Arlie was a man of his word, strong in spirit and devoted to his family. He enjoyed the simple things in life, but family was his priority. He loved all of God's nature, but he especially liked birds. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. Arlie also loved music, enjoying Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis and Percy Sledge. He is remembered for his quiet faith in God, his strong work ethic and his love of family.
Funeral service will be private due to family illness.
