Avia Jane Oxendine Moore

Jane passed away in the devoted care of Lower Cape Fear LifeCare on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.

She was born in Robeson County but lived most of her life in Wilmington, making her career as a hairdresser and owning her own shop, Courtyard Hair Designs, for 26 years.

She was a loving and trusted mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend and her warm smile and beautiful blue eyes will long be remembered by all who knew her. Jane dearly loved her family, friends, her many clients and the girls who worked with her at Courtyard. She always spoke fondly of their happy memories together.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Terry; daughter, Amanda Brown Brinson; son-in-law, Matt Brinson; grandson, Grant; sisters, Janis Mozingo, Judy Phillips, Jenny Russell and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Grace Evelyn Brinson; mother, Avia Oxendine; father, Robert Oxendine; and brother, James Ray Oxendine.

Her funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Wilmington with Pastor Norman Hunt officiating. Burial will take place following the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends and visitors one hour prior to the service starting at 10:00 am.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who kept Jane in their prayers and thoughts or sent a card, called, or visited these past 5 years. Words can never convey what these thoughtful acts meant to her as her disease progressed. They also want to acknowledge two very special places: the staff of NorthChase Rehab and Nursing Center who helped care for her during Terry’s surgery last year and the folks at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare for lifting the weight of the world off their shoulders during a very trying time the past several months.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Foundation (a non-profit Medicare-rated 5 Star Family Caregiver organization).
