Barbara "Susie" Rivenbark Woodcock, age 87, of Burgaw and formerly of Atkinson passed from her earthly life Friday, July 7, 2023. All of her life Barbara was known and loved as Susie.
She was born June 27, 1936 in Pender County, the daughter of James Henry Rivenbark and Minnie Alice Rackley Rivenbark. In addition to her parents Susie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Charles Edmond Woodcock, Sr.; her stepmother, Mary Pierce Rivenbark (who raised Susie after Susie's mother died); brothers, Carlyle, Paulette, William, and John Henry Rivenbark; and sister, Mary Jane Rivenbark.
Susie is survived by her children, Charles E. Woodcock, Jr. (Lynn), Patricia Woodcock Jenkins (Joseph) and Jeffery D. Woodcock; grandchildren, Dwayne Woodcock (Nikki), Stephanie Woodcock Hall (Thomas), and Paul Lea Avery III (Julie); great grandchildren, Hannah, Gabriel "Gabe", Noelle, and Emma; sister, Estherlene Jarman; brothers, James Graham Rivenbark (Carol) and Dennis Rivenbark (Vicki); stepsisters; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Susie grew up in the Forest Hills Community, attended Burgaw school and Forest Hills Baptist Church. After Susie and Charles were married and lived in Atkinson, they attended Atkinson Freewill Holiness Church where she enjoyed helping with their youth group. Additionally, she was active in the community by participating in the Atkinson bowling league and the women's softball team.
Susie was a wonderful homemaker, delightful cook, and a diligent vegetable garden grower. Susie also enjoyed growing flowers in her beautiful flower beds. She loved fishing, especially pier fishing where she was known to catch coolers full of fish in one day or night. She was an avid Elvis Presley fan and especially enjoyed listening and singing to the gospel songs he would sing. Most important of all Susie loved and cared for her family.
The family will receive friends 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with funeral service at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev. Merrell McKoy will conduct the service.
Burial will follow in Woodcock Cemetery.
