Bedie McKoy Thigpen, age 71, of Burgaw died peacefully Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at her son's home in Surf City.
She was born July 20, 1939 in Pender County, the daughter of the late Sprunt Jefferson and Hazel Eldor McKoy. Also remembered is her brother, Tim McKoy.
Surviving is her loving family; devoted husband of 52 years, Carl Patrick Thigpen, Sr.; children, Carl Thigpen, Jr. (Lisa) of Surf City, Laurie Thigpen McWatty (James) of Loris, SC, James Thigpen (Wendy) of Burgaw and Patricia Thigpen Bannerman of Surf City; grandchildren, Christy Thigpen, Patrick Thigpen, Timothy McWatty, Hope McWatty, Olivia French, Michael Carney, Jessica Thigpen, Jonathan Thigpen, Rodrick Wilson, Marcus Simpson and Kierra Bannerman; brother, Stoney McKoy of Burgaw; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Thigpen was a faithful member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church, A.R.E.M.E. No. 372 Order of the Eastern Star and The Gideons International. Bedie was a devoted wife and was the best mom, grandmother, sister and friend. She always put others before herself and could not do enough for family and friends. She excelled in sewing, cooking and was noted for her strawberry cobbler. There was nothing she enjoyed more than having folks over for a fish fry or cookout. Her life on this earth was blessed and Bedie with her beautiful smile will be greatly missed.
Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Hopewell Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Ralph Evans and The Rev. Bobby Owings officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Patrick Thigpen, Rodrick Wilson, Timothy McWatty, Brent Croom, Bryan Croom and David McKoy. Honorary bearers will be L. T. Zandy, Joe Bannerman, J. B. Croom, Bobby Powell, Marvin Moss and Millard Murray.
The family will receive friends 5 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
