Obituary

Benjamin "Ben" Morris Clay, 91, of Currie passed peacefully from his earthly life on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at home.

He was born June 13, 1921 in Enfield, North Carolina and was the son of the late Benjamin Morris Clay and Olivia Clay Pridgen. Also remembered are his step-father, Gordon Pridgen; brothers, Judson Clay and Fred Pridgen; and sister, Dorothy Clay Brown, all who preceded Ben in death.

Ben is survived by his wife, Dorothy Clay; son, Jack Clay (Jeanette) of Maggie Valley; daughter, Debbie Sumner (Edward) of Currie; grandchildren, Marlene Skiver (Rob), Eric Sumner (Denise) and Casey Sumner (Stephanie); six great grandchildren; sister, Jo Ann Davis of Currie; brother, Bill Pridgen (Sharon) of Currie; many nieces and nephews and extended family.

Ben served his country honorably in the US Army and was retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Asheville after working for many years.

Ben loved his family beyond compare and took good care of them. Yard sales, flee markets and cross word puzzles were favorite pastimes for Ben. He loved the outdoors and was usually never without chocolate covered peanuts and Baby Ruth candy. His sunny smile, witty personality, warm heart and most of all his steadfast faith in the Lord will always be cherished.
