Bertie Eunice Cavenaugh Gilbert, 90, of Rose Hill left this earthly life for her eternal rest on Thursday, February 23, 2023.
She was born on November 18, 1932 in Duplin County and was the daughter of the late Isaiah and Florence Cavenaugh. She was also predeceased by her loving husband, Roy Gilbert; her son Dean Gilbert and grandson Shane Cavenaugh; siblings,Aubrey Cavenaugh, Vergie Profitt and John David Cavenaugh.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Shirley Wheeler of Rose Hill, Mary Lou Cavenaugh and husband Butch of Wallace, Roy Alan Gilbert of Rose Hill and William Earl Gilbert of Ashville; grandchildren, Brandy Gilbert, Sarah Smith, Andrew Smith, Anthony Smith and William Gilbert; great grandchildren, Payton Cavenaugh, Gabriel Smith, Dominic Smith, Christian Smith, Andi Smith, Aron Smith and Jonathan Gilbert; great-great granddaughter, Magnolia Jean "Sissy" Cavenaugh; siblings, Annie Pearl Bray of Wallace, Ray Cavenaugh and wife Mary Lou of Wallace and Aaron Cavenaugh and wife Jeannie of Wallace; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that loved Bertie dearly.
Bertie was a loving mother and caring grandmother who loved her family dearly. She was a simple woman who enjoyed simple things such as crocheting, shopping and cooking. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Bertie especially enjoyed visiting with Ray at his barn and Aaron at the antique store. She loved to cook and was a great cook. Her apple jacks were the best around, Bertie loved people and was loved in return. She will surely be missed but treasured memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2023 at Cavenaugh's Cemetery on NC Hwy 41, Wallace, NC with Reverend Ray Kennedy officiating the service. The family will greet friends after the service at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, PO Box 339, Wallace, NC 28466 to help with funeral expenses for Bertie.
