Bessie Carolina Thompson, 78, of Burgaw passed gently from her earthly life to her eternal rest on Monday, April 8, 2013 at her daughter's home in Laurinburg.

She was born February 16, 1935 in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Ollie Clarence and Ethel Perkins Huggins. Bessie was also preceded in death by her husband, William H. Thompson, Sr.; son, Michael Thompson; daughters, Bobbie Williamson and Hilda "Tiny" Jacobs; and grandson, Larry Patrick, Jr.

Bessie is survived by her daughters, Deborah Sue Patrick (Larry) and Ann Jacobs both of Bolton and Ellen Williams of Laurinburg; son, Williams H. Thompson, Jr. of Burgaw; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and sister, Rose Crum.

Many will remember the delicious food that Bessie cooked at Reades Restaurant for 25 years.

Bessie loved her family and was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She found great joy in the simplest of things, but her greatest joy was family. Bessie was a diligent worker and always enjoyed cooking. Fond memories of Bessie will remain in our hearts.

Graveside funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Watha United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Nathan Morton officiating.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
