Bettie Courtemanche of Wilmington died Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice LifeCareCenter.
Bettie was born in Bolton, NC on December 16, 1933. She was the daughter of the late Jesse LaFayette Martin and Rosie Amelia Benton Martin Thompson. She is preceded in death by her son Marvin Eddie Martin, husband Bruce Courtemanche, brothers Jesse Cecil Martin, Jimmy Carlton Martin and stepfather David John Thompson, Sr.
She is survived by her sister Sharon Thompson Willis (Terry) of Wilmington, brother Johnny Thompson (Linda) of Leland, 11 nephews and 4 nieces.
Bettie started working at the Friendly Cafeteria around 1948 and continued to work there as manager until it closed. She then moved to California where she met and married Bruce. When Bruce died she returned to Wilmington. She was a wonderful sister, aunt and friend. Bettie was full of love and found great joy in giving to others especially children. How she spent her last days said a lot about how she lived her life. Though bedridden and in pain from Cancer, she could be found praising God. She would sweetly tell Jesus she loved him over and over. Her last words were "God is in control". These words serve as comfort to us all. Her race is over and she has finished well! Matthew 25:21.
Graveside service will be 11am, Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5-7 on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Please consider a memorial contribution to Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
