Betty Jean Carney, age 78, of Wilmington passed away Friday, June 17, 2016 at her home.

She was born in Wilmington, North Carolina January 22, 1938 the daughter of the late Robert S. Wilkins and Odie King Wilkins. She is also preceded in death by her daughter, Doris Ann Price.

Betty was a devoted member of Bible Baptist Church for 13 years and enjoyed spending time in fellowship with others. She loved her career as a waitress at Merritt Burger House and retired after fifty years. Betty loved to spend time with her family, taking care of her family members and being at all the family functions.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, James Carney (Mary), Michael Carney (Angie) and Sheldon Carney; daughter, Velda Gay (Alan); twelve grandchildren; twentyone great grandchildren; sister, Shirley Stokley; brother, Cecil Ward; son-in-law; Robert Price; feline companion, Louie; and numerous other loving family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Quinn McGowen Wilmington Chapel.

A service will be held 11 AM Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Quinn McGowen Wilmington Chapel. Burial will follow at Winter Park Cemetery in Wilmington.
