Bettye Cottle Lanier, 89, of Burgaw passed peacefully from her earthly life Saturday, February 12, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born March 2, 1932 in Pender County, the daughter of John Thomas and Essie Mae Watkins Cottle.
In addition to her parents Bettye was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tracy Lanier in 1999 and her sister, Ginny Brown.
Bettye is survived by her four sons, Tracy C. Lanier, Jr., Stephen C. Lanier (Brenda), Gary C. Lanier, and Clifton C. Lanier; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; many extended family and friends.
Bettye's life exemplified her Christian beliefs; she was an angel on earth and now an angel in God's heavenly kingdom. Bettye was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. She loved being outdoors with all of God's nature – birds, flowers, trees. She had a soft spot in her heart for all animals and took many into her care. Bettye lived a long and good life; her kind words of wisdom and gentle spirit will be missed.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 14, 2022 at Riverview Memorial Park with Rev. David Knowles conducting the service. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.
