Billy J. Lunesford, age 55, of Wilmington died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at his home.

He was born December 20, 1955 in Greenville, Mississippi, the son of Jimmy L. and Mary Ezzell Lunesford.

Billy is survived by his sons, Billy "J.J." Lunesford, Jr. (Tangela) of Carolina Beach and Shane L. Lunesford (Jennifer) of Burgaw; daughters, Tonya Rene` Lunesford (Ray Grainger) of Leland, Connie Kenney (Donnie) of Wilmington, Donna Kenney (Thomas West) of Leland, Tammy Hurlburt (Larry) of Leland and Jan Thompson of Wilmington; 12 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brother, Antonio "Tony" Lunesford (Lisa) of Wilmington; sisters, Debbie Pacheco (Joe) of Wilmington and Mary Ann Bryan (Tommy Ivey) of Rocky Point and many nieces and nephews.

Billy served his country honorably in the US Army. Billy was well known and respected in the Glover Plaza community where he lived for many years. Even though he was often confined to a wheelchair he diligently checked on and kept a watch out for his neighbors. Billy spent time each day sitting on his porch and visiting with his neighbors. He loved his family and was loved in return. Cherished memories of Billy will forever remain in our hearts.

Graveside funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2012 at Oleander Memorial Gardens with The Rev. J. C. Young-Thompson officiating.

The family will receive friends 3 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
