Billy Ray Newton, 72, of Willard passed peacefully from his earthly life on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at his home.
He was born January 11, 1944 in Pender County, the son of the late Thomas Bryant Newton and Mildred Costin Newton. Billy was preceded in death by his son, Bryan Flavif Newton and sister, Joyce Newton Bland.
Billy is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Joan Clayton Newton; sons, Ross Tremain Newton (Trisha) and Thomas Edward Newton (Angie); grandchildren, Madison Paige Newton, Spencer Brice Newton, Austin Tyler Newton and Michael Austin Newton; brother, Lloyd S. Newton, Sr. (Pearline); favorite niece, Jacqueline Newton; special friend, Luis Perez; and many extended family and friends.
Billy was a faithful member of Potts Memorial Presbyterian Church and a member of Wallace Lodge No. 595 A.F. & A.M., where he was a 32nd degree Mason. He was owner of Dixie Line Trucking and Newton Steel Company and co-owner of J. Clayton International.
Billy was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Being a man of many talents and interests, Billy was an airplane pilot, excellent mechanic and avid fisherman. He lived a life of humility, honestly, humor, and service to his faith, family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Potts Memorial Presbyterian Church, 4125 NC Hwy 11, Willard, NC with The Rev. Dr. William Goodnight officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
Flowers are welcomed to honor Billy. Also appreciated are memorial gifts to a charity of one's choice.
