Ed was a true Southern gentleman who served his family, church and community with compassion, honor, and dignity. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Ed attended Campbell University. After serving his country honorably in the US Army, Ed joined his father in the general merchandise store known as Mr. Boney's. When his brother, Allan, graduated from college he joined Ed and their father, opening a supermarket in Burgaw changing the name to Wilson's. As time went by the business grew from one to many stores in southeastern North Carolina. Ed loved the stores and spent many years working and promoting them.
