Brenda Kennedy Pierce, 69, passed gently from her earthly life Monday, May 25, 2026 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington.

She was born November 20, 1956 in Pender County, the daughter of Rupert Valentine Kennedy and Margaret Futreal Dixon. In addition to her parents Brenda was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Dean Pierce in 2025.

Brenda is survived by her children, Kirk Johnson (Sonja), Paul Johnson (Michelle), Holly Johnson (Wesley Tyler), and Jeffery Johnson (Amber); ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; Sisters, Shirley Dawson, Katie Glover (Rickey). Sandra Meeks, Linda Holloman (Bill), and Barbara Romainger (Danny); many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Brenda loved spending time with family and friends. Her grandchildren were true joys in her life and what fun she had with them. Brenda was famous for her special collards and potato salad. Brenda had a cat named Jo-Jo that she dearly loved. Brenda  was tough and a true fighter, demonstrating fortitude and courage throughout her illness. Brenda loved deeply and will be dearly missed.

The memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with Mr. Joey Sadusky and Mr. Bill King conducting the service. The family will receive friends following the service.

With gratitude and special thanks to the "Super Hero Hospice team" – Monica Bass, Sonia Swart, and Chaplain Kenya – for their care, support and uplifting spirit. You created a positive influence on Brenda's end of life journey and our family is eternally grateful.
