Obituary

On December 6th, 2023, Brian Douglas Corbett, loving husband, brother and son passed away at the age of 50. Brian was born on September 25, 1973 in Wilmington, North Carolina. Brian spent his childhood in Atkinson and graduated from Pender High School.  Brian later moved to South Carolina where he has lived since.

Brian met his wife, Kelly, in Wilmington 2005.  They later married in 2007 and built their home in Loris, South Carolina. A towering 6 foot 7 inches, Brian had a huge heart and loved to spoil his nieces and nephews. Brian was a passionate sports fan dedicated to his UNC Tarheels, San Fransico 49ers and Detroit Tigers. Brian loved cooking and exploring new places during travels with Kelly. An avid junk talker, he always had a smart remark or a dumb joke to share. Brian loved his 4-legged children, Molly, Cane, Mia and Hunter. Brian spent his 30-year career in retail management and worked for the past ten years at Walmart where he had so many friends and colleagues.

Brian was preceded in death by his grandparents Bayard Zebulon and Lillian Corbett, Colon and Helen Corbett, and by his beloved Uncle John Wesley.

Brian is survived by his wife, Kelly Willis Corbett; little brother, Timothy and wife Claire; stepbrother, Brandon Ludlum and wife Tonya; sister-in-law. Crystal Nichols; mother, Brenda Corbett; father, Douglas Corbett and wife Janice; father-in-law, Mike Willis and wife Becky; mother-in-law, Deborah Smith and husband Fred. Brian is also survived by his cousin, Adam Corbett and wife Tracy and their son, John Adam. Brian's adored nieces and nephews include Anna and Nathan Corbett, Aubree Ludlum, Hanna and Sara Johnson, Lauren Peguero, Logan and Jacob Strickland, and great nieces, Amelia Peguero and Aspyn Tripp. Brian is also survived by many close aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues who loved him.

The family will receive friends 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 10, 2023 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel followed by a graveside service at 3:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Ken Smith and Brian's beloved family will conduct the service.
