Carl Robert Beckett, 83, of Wilmington, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Trinity Grove in Wilmington.
He was born on April 26, 1941, in Canton, Ohio, the son of Robert James Beckett and Ruby McNutt Beckett. Carl had a sister, Mildred Beckett Nicholas. After graduating from Sandy Valley High School in Magnolia, OH, Carl joined the United States Air Force in December 1960, taking the oath of service at Cleveland, OH.
Initially trained in the Dental Laboratory Technician career field at Gunter Air Force Base, AL, he would serve 23 years in that capacity across multiple assignments. Carl's travels took him from Ohio to Spangdahlem and Bitburg Air Bases in Germany, to Karamursel Air Base, Turkey, March Air Force Base, CA, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, NC, and finally, the United States Air Force Academy, CO, where he would retire after twenty-three years of service. While he was stationed at Seymour Johnson AFB, in Goldsboro, he attended East Carolina University and University of Maryland, earning an Associate's Degree.
Carl married Judith H. Johnson on March 16, 1980, in Goldsboro, NC, at St. Francis Episcopal Church. Carl has four sons; Donald Beckett (Linda), Thomas Beckett (Tammy), Stephen Beckett (Lisa), and Christopher Beckett (Andrea). Carl has seven grandchildren; Aiden, Hannah, Mallory, Laura, Bethany, Abigail, and David; and two great grandchildren, Emory and Amelia.
Carl founded Beckett Dental Lab in Wilmington, NC. He would operate that lab for the better of thirty years before formally retiring. Carl's work ethic and quality were well known in New Hanover County and he even had work shipped in from across the country.
Carl was a charter member, first treasurer, and vestry member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Wilmington, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Holy Cross Episcopal Church.
His Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Holy Cross Episcopal Church, 5820 Myrtle Grove Rd., Wilmington, with the Rev. Anne Abdy officiating and the US Air Force performing military honors.
