Carl Lee Johnson, 78, of Burgaw passed peacefully from his earthly life on Monday, June 18, 2018 at Pender Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 1, 1939 in Burgaw, the son of the late Lenmore Lunsford Johnson and Mary Bell Woodcock Johnson. Also, lovingly remembered is his granddaughter, Kristina Fussell, who also preceded Carl in death.

Carl is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Lou Williamson Johnson; children, Jimmie Lee Johnson, Marie Johnson Wright (Thomas), and Larry W. Johnson; grandchildren, Angelica Fussell and Bryan Johnson; four great grandchildren; sister, Eva Henderson; and many extended family and dear friends.

Carl loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. For many years he was a truck driver by profession. Carl enjoyed watching wrestling on TV and was passionate about keeping his yard mowed and looking spiffy. Carl was quiet in manner, but his children said when dad spoke you sat up and listened! Carl was loved and will be greatly missed.

A graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Woodcock Cemetery, Beattys Bridge Road, Atkinson. Pastor Jerome Bullard will conduct the service.

The family will be at the home of Carl's daughter, Marie Wright in Burgaw.
